Can I reinstall an eSIM?
Use the page content field for the main answer, steps, screenshots, and troubleshooting guidance.
It is generally impossible to reinstall an eSIM once it has been deleted, which is why we strongly advise against removing it if you plan to use it again. If you delete an eSIM from your device, you may encounter problems downloading it again. In this case, you will need to acquire, install, and activate a new eSIM to access mobile networks in your destination area.
To avoid these complications, it is best to simply deactivate your eSIM temporarily when it is not in use. However, it is important to note that the eSIM's validity period is not interrupted during this temporary deactivation.
Why keep an eSIM active while it is useful to you?
eSIMs differ from traditional physical SIM cards, which can be easily moved between different devices. eSIMs are directly linked to your device's hardware, making their transfer or reinstallation complicated. When your data plan or eSIM validity period expires, you can simply top up your existing eSIM with a new plan. Go to the "My eSIMs" section, select "TOP UP," and then choose the data plan that suits you.
The Benefits of Temporarily Disabling Your eSIM
Temporarily disabling an eSIM can be an effective strategy for saving data. This prevents any unintentional data usage in the background, a significant advantage when you're on the go or have a limited data plan.
To temporarily disable an eSIM on an iOS device:
-
Open Settings > Cellular Data > SIM Cards.
-
Find the eSIM in question and select it.
-
Turn off the "Activate This Number" option.
For Android devices:
-
Go to Settings > SIM Cards & Mobile Networks.
-
Look for the Manage eSIM option and select the desired eSIM.
-
Choose "Deactivate" from the mobile plan deactivation options.
Keep in mind that this deactivation is only temporary. Your eSIM remains ready to be reactivated upon request.
