When you try to set up an eSIM on an iPhone, you might encounter an error message that reads:
"Unable to activate eSIM. Please try again or contact your carrier for assistance."
This type of problem can have various causes. Some are easy to fix, while others require a quick check of your settings.
First, check if your eSIM is already installed, even if an error message appears. To do this, follow these steps:
-
Go to the Settings app.
-
Tap Cellular Data or Mobile Data.
-
Then, select your eSIM under Cellular Data. It may be labeled Personal, Travel, or Secondary.
-
Make sure the Activate This Number option is enabled.
-
Also, enable Data Roaming if necessary.
If your eSIM is listed and the settings are correct, everything is working correctly. It should connect automatically as soon as you reach your destination.
If the eSIM doesn't appear to be installed and the error persists, make sure your device is connected to the internet. A stable connection is essential for eSIM activation. Once connected, try the installation again.
Restarting your device can sometimes resolve minor system glitches that are preventing activation. After restarting, check if the eSIM is now recognized in your settings.
It's also advisable to keep your iPhone up to date, as older versions of iOS can cause eSIM compatibility issues. Be sure to back up your data via iCloud or a computer before updating. Then, go to Settings > General > Software Update to download and install any available updates. Once your device has restarted, try eSIM activation again.
Also, check if your iPhone is unlocked. A device locked by a carrier can prevent the activation of eSIMs from other companies. To check this, go to Settings > General > About, then check the status under Carrier Lock. If
