To determine when you can activate your eSIM, it's essential to understand the activation rules. Generally, most eSIMs are activated once you reach your destination.
If you're not yet in the area covered by your eSIM, you'll have to wait before you can use it. However, in many cases, the eSIM can be installed as soon as you receive it.
Before using your eSIM, make sure it's activated and that you've selected it for data usage. This ensures it will connect to the network once you're in the coverage area.
Where is the eSIM operational? The eSIM only works within its coverage area. For example, an eSIM intended for France will only be usable in France.
If you install the eSIM before arriving in the coverage area, it won't work, even if you've followed all the instructions to connect to a network.
When is the right time to install my eSIM? It's recommended to install it as soon as you have a stable internet connection. Before installing it, make sure you understand the validity terms of your plan, as some start immediately upon installation, regardless of your location.
What does an eSIM validity policy mean? This policy specifies when an eSIM plan's validity period begins. You'll find these details before or after purchase.
In most cases, validity begins when the eSIM connects to a compatible network within its coverage area. However, if the installation takes place outside this area, validity will begin as soon as you arrive.
Sometimes, validity starts as soon as the eSIM is installed in your device. In this case, if you install it outside the coverage area, the validity period will begin before you can actually use the eSIM.
What is meant by validity period? This is the length of time your eSIM plan is active. For example, an eSIM with 1 GB of data for one week means that this data is available for a full 7 days.
It is important to note that the data allowance must be used within the entire validity period.
